ALL eyes were on the Whitireia Performing Arts students when an impromptu Haka took place at Singapore Changi Airport.

The flash-mob surprised onlookers who were restlessly waiting for their flight to Auckland.

Whitireia Performing Arts were en route to Wellington after 12 days of cultural performances at the Nan Ying International Folklore Festival in Tainan City, in southern Taiwan.

A flash-mob is when a group of people assemble together in one location to put on an unexpected but rehearsed act.

Two people started it off in the centre of the departure lounge, and by the second round of Ka Mate, all 20 performers were giving it their all.

Spectators were glued to the haka, not something you see every day in an airport.

“It was a nice change to how we usually perform the haka,” third-year student Jason Karena says

Jason got into character by walking over to the action, casually dropping his suitcase and getting involved.

Fellow student, Mapihi Kellard, says she hopes it made the Kiwis feel more excited to go home.
